On a sunny but cool fall afternoon, twenty-one ago, two young men graduated from a training program that was offered by a large Canadian insurance company. The two of them were very similar to each other. Both had been better than average students, both had charisma and were very outgoing, and both – as young college graduates are – were filled with ambitious dreams for the future.
Over the years they had lost touch with each other. However, a few months ago the two men ran into each other at a fundraising dinner. They decided that later on that week they would get together over a coffee to reminisce, and to pick each others brain regarding the insurance sales game.
The following Monday morning, they met at a local coffee shop.
They were still very much alike. Both were happily married. Both had three children. And, it turned out that both had worked for the same insurance company for a few years before deciding to leave the company to "strike out on their own" to sell insurance products.
But there was a clear difference. One of the men was selling over three times as much insurance as the other.
